Exploring Four Creative Style Personalities

Hey there! Ever find yourself dreaming of designing a home that’s more than just a functional roof over your head?

You know, the kind of space that not only reflects your unique style but also sparks creativity, joy, and inspiration every time you walk through the door? A place where you can kick back and relax, entertain your friends (if that’s your thing), and let your creative ideas flow freely? Well, today we’re diving into ideas for your home decor and exploring four different style personalities. Each of these personalities brings their own flair to the design table, with a way of turning a house into a home that truly resonates with their values and way of life. So, get ready to discover how your home can become a reflection of everything that matters most to you!

If you’re not sure which of the creative style personalities describes you – or which you hope to be, I put together a quick quiz to help you find out! You can take the quiz here!

Quiz to discover your Creative Style Personalities.

Personality 1: DIY Artisan

You’re an avid DIY enthusiast who enjoys creating handmade and personalized decor items for your home. You love a good project and infusing your living spaces with unique and creative touches.

The problem — there isn’t enough time in the day for all the projects you’d like to do!

For the DIY Artisans, home decor isn’t just about filling a space with furniture and accessories; you want to infuse every corner of your home with a piece of yourself. You love the process of creating handmade and personalized decor items, whether it’s refurbishing old furniture, crafting unique wall art, or sewing custom throw pillows.

It’s not about the result, it’s about the creative journey.

You cherish the moments spent lost in the creative process, from brainstorming ideas to sourcing materials to bringing the vision to life.

You don’t think of your home as just a place to live; it’s a gallery where you can collect and showcase your creativity. You know that true beauty lies not in perfection, but in the imperfect, the handmade, and the heartfelt.

If you are looking for an update for your space…

1. Create custom artwork: One of my favorite ways? Find a canvas or framed art at a thrift store and paint over it! You can create something new, or paint it like a paint-by-number, following the original design for inspiration.

2. Custom textiles: Sew custom throw pillows using fabric of your choice. A few unexpected places to find fabrics: purchase tablecloths or cloth napkins (bonus if the napkins are already cut to the size you need!)

3. DIY botanical displays: Create your own floral displays using a mix of live plants and leaves, flowers, branches, and other natural elements. Arrange them in pots, vases, or terrariums to bring a touch of nature indoors. (The more unusual the better, in my opinion!)

After all, I am also a wallpaper designer 😉 Here’s what I would recommend:

Highland Path by Toboggan Avenue for Everett Park

These subtle patterns are a great backdrop for your DIY display!

Personality 2: Eclectic Visionary

You have an eclectic approach to home decor, drawing inspiration from various styles, colors, and textures to create a visually stimulating environment. You enjoy mixing and matching different elements to create a one-of-a-kind aesthetic that reflects your eclectic tastes.

The problem: How to mix a little of this and a little of that — and make it look good?!

In your creative world, you know that rules are made to be broken, and creativity knows no bounds. You want a unique and daring approach to home decor, blending styles, colors, and textures with ease to create a home that is as visually captivating as it is thought-provoking.

You have a fearless spirit of experimentation, which sometimes leads to feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options. You find a thrill in mixing and matching different elements, from vintage finds to contemporary pieces, from bold patterns to muted tones, from rustic textures to sleek finishes.

Juxtaposition is your favorite word.

The goal: to stand out as a true original, with a home that has a story to tell, because it’s a unique one.

If you are looking for an update for your space…

1. Repurpose items: Give new life to old or forgotten items by repurposing them in unexpected ways. For example, cute trays as wall decor or plant pots as paintbrush holders.

2. Add an unexpected pop of color: Include an unexpected color to your pallet –  something that will catch the eye and spark a conversation.

3. Experiment with wallpaper: Use wallpaper to add personality and tie your eclectic collections together. Opt for bold patterns, quirky designs, or textured finishes to make a statement in any room.

Personality 3: Cozy Curator

The Cozy Curator Creative Style Personality prioritizes creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your home. You focus on incorporating soft textures, warm colors, and meaningful decor items to make your living spaces feel like a comfortable retreat where you can relax and unwind.

The problem: You want calm and collected – a cozy calm in a chaotic season.

For you, warmth, comfort, and tranquility are the goal. All the neutrals and texture, please! You’d love to create an inviting and intimate space that wraps you up like a welcome hug. Home is not just a place to live; it’s a place where you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the outside world and recharge their spirits.

You know that true comfort goes beyond mere aesthetics—it’s about how a space makes you feel. But creating an atmosphere that envelops you in a cocoon of relaxation and warmth is easier said than done when you have so much on your schedule.

Favorite words: nostalgia, comfort, and joy.

Your goal: to slow down, savor the moment, and find comfort in the simple pleasures of home.

1. Create a reading nook: Arrange a cozy corner or alcove with a comfortable armchair or loveseat, a soft throw blanket, and a small side table for holding books and a warm cup of tea (or coffee!).

2. Add layered lighting: Incorporate multiple sources of light to give options for cozying up in the evenings! Try these battery-operated table lamps for a low-light touch! 3. Set up a coffee/tea station: Arrange a comforting and readily available display of your favorite mug, tea/coffee options, spoon, snacks – anything necessary for your coffee or tea ritual.

Personality 4: Minimalist Innovator

The Minimalist Innovator prefers a bold and unique approach to home decor, that celebrates simplicity, functionality and innovation in home decor. If this describes you, you enjoy prioritizing simple, open spaces, and uncluttered style.

The problem — curating the minimalist space you love that also shows your unique personality.

You have an imagination that thrives in an uncluttered space. Minimalism isn’t just about paring down to the essentials; it’s about distilling design to its essence, creating a canvas where every element serves a purpose and every detail is intentional.

Sometimes knowing what to remove is as hard as knowing what to add, and displaying your personal style while maintaining order is a tricky balance.

Your goal: prove that less truly can be more.

For you, design is about provoking thought, stirring emotions, and sparking conversation and inspiration. You’re looking for design that proves that minimalism is not a limitation, but a liberation from the unnecessary, the extraneous, and the superficial.

If you are looking for an update for your space…

1. Play with Texture: Introduce texture into your space to add depth and dimension without cluttering it up. Consider adding a plush rug, a chunky knit throw, or a textured accent pillow or two to create visual and tactile interest.

2. Add reflective surfaces: Incorporate mirrors or metallic accents to reflect light and create an illusion of space while adding a touch of glamour and sophistication (without a lot of extraneous stuff).

3. Curate Thoughtfully: You’ve likely done this, but walk through your space with an eye of intentionality about the items you choose to display in your space. Curate a carefully edited collection of decor pieces that reflect your personality and style, and rotate them occasionally to keep things fresh.
