Geometry House Towels

If you’ve ever sat down to work but felt instantly distracted, unmotivated, or overwhelmed by your space… it’s usually not you! It’s your setup.

The right creative workspace office supplies can make it easier to focus, create, and actually enjoy the creative process instead of avoiding it and scrolling social media instead.

These are a few of my favorite finds that make a real difference in how my workspace looks and functions.

From cluttered desk to creative flow: must have creative workspace office supplies

Office Storage and Supplies for a Creative Workspace

The Lamp That Does Everything

Canvas Desk Lamp
This versatile lamp holds your phone and offers adjustable lighting for videos, Zoom calls, or late-night creative sessions. This is essential for content creators!

DIY Linen Bulletin Boards

I love low-cost, high-impact decor! Cover thrifted bulletin boards (or these) in this linen fabric to create custom pin boards that feel high-end, textured, and completely personalized to your space. They’re perfect for pinning inspiration, notes, and mood boards.

Storage That Actually Looks Good

IKEA ALEX Drawers

Organize supplies in style. Clean lines, hidden clutter, and DIY dividers make this a must-have. Storage like this helps your workspace feel calm instead of cluttered.

Cozy Candlelight Without the Risk

Candle Warmer Lamp A candle warmer gives you the cozy glow and scent of a candle without an open flame, perfect for long creative sessions. I loved this one so much, I bought a second!

The “Office Inbox” System

Having one dedicated basket like this one for papers and to-dos keeps clutter off your desk and gives everything a clear place to land until you’re ready to deal with it.

Other Tripods and Phone Holders for a Creative Workspace

Documenting your art process and sharing it online can feel tricky without the right tools! A few well-chosen pieces make it so much easier. These are the ones I reach for again and again:

Canvas Lamp / Tripod
If I could only pick one, it would be this! (It’s worth mentioning twice, it’s so good) The lamp doubles as a phone holder and adjustable light, making it perfect for recording content with natural, flattering lighting.

Moft Magnetic Phone Holder
I love this little tool for easy close-up videos. The only catch? I have to take off my Loopy Cases phone case to use it. Still, the convenience and results make it totally worth it.

Gooseneck Clamp
A flexible gooseneck clamp attached to my desk gives me multiple angles for filming. I mostly use it because I was moving my Canvas lamp back and forth too much and didn’t want to risk dropping it.

Telescoping Tripod
For standing video and travel, this is my second must-have. It’s perfect for capturing family moments or process videos when I’m on the go.

Hands-Free Neck Phone Holder
For process videos that require both hands, this is a lifesaver. Full disclosure—you’ll look pretty goofy wearing it, and I always hope the neighbors don’t see me! But the video results are fantastic. 😁

upgrades for creative workspace office supplies

Basic Supplies for a Creative Workspace

Quiet Click Mouse
A small change with a big impact. This keeps your workspace peaceful while quietly clicking through editing or organizing files.

Ergonomic Keyboard
Your wrists (and productivity) will thank you. Comfortable typing makes long work sessions easier and less stressful. I put off this purchase for far too long!

Art Supplies for a Creative Workspace

Paper

Top of the list of creative workspace office supplies: because although I do a lot of digital design work, nearly everything starts out as a design or marks on paper. My favorites are:

Cold Press Watercolor Paper – This is my go-to paper for painting motifs to scan for surface pattern designs. The front is textured, the back is smooth, so you can achieve different results depending on the side you use. My top reasons for reaching for this paper are because of the reasonable price and because the size fits perfectly in my scanner bed.

Canson Oil and Acrylic Paper – my favorite for the texture

Standard Printer Paper – I use a lot of standard printer paper; it’s inexpensive, so it doesn’t feel as precious as my textured papers, so ideas just seem to flow better when I make marks on this.

Trace Paper – sometimes I need to work in layers, and although I could use my iPad, I love working with my hands, so trace paper it is! I also developed a deep love for trace paper when working at my former interior design job.

Light Box – this isn’t paper, but I use this lightbox often with trace paper when I need to copy details. (My kids love it too!)

Paint, Ink & Other Art Mediums

India Ink – my top favorite art supply for everyday use. I buy it in a large bottle because I use it so much!

Watercolor paints – really, any will do, as long as they have a deep, rich pigment. These deeper colors scan so much better for transferring to Illustrator.

Drawing Pastels – these are so messy, but I love them for the texture they add to my linework, especially on the oil & acrylic paper mentioned above.

Tailors Chalk – I recently added this and it’s just so much fun to use! This is what I reach for when I need to pull myself out of a creative block!

dream workspace and creative workspace office supplies

Paint Brushes, Pens, Etc.

Princeton brushes are my favorite. Not overly expensive, but they hold up well! I mostly use a #6, #8, and #2 for details and the script liner brush for fun shapes and patterns.

Pentel Arts Pocket Brush Pen – This brush pen is especially great for traveling – when you want to ‘paint’ but don’t want the mess of taking along India ink and paint brushes.

Fine Line Sharpie pens – really, who doesn’t love sharpies!?

Papermate pens – my favorite for writing, sketching, and just about everything else!

Eye Dropper – I keep this on my work table and use it all the time for painting and creating interesting textures.

Good old Dixon Ticonderoga Pencils – In black, of course, because aesthetics are important in an art studio!

Plate for watercolor mixing – This one is so cute, but I have found others at thrift stores! Really, anything will work; I just want it to have plenty of room for mixing and matching the look of my workspace!

Why This Matters

When your workspace is thoughtfully set up, it becomes more than just an afterthought. It becomes a place that inspires creativity, focus, and flow. Even small, intentional upgrades to your creative workspace office supplies can transform how you feel when you sit down to work, making it easier to start, stay focused, and actually see your ideas through. You don’t need a full overhaul! Start with just a few well-chosen pieces that make your space feel personal, functional, and inviting.
